TISE Leads Return of Industrywide Shows -
Installation Competition Highlights in Las Vegas
For over a year, the industry waited for the return of in-person events. Then, the
International Surface Event (TISE) SURFACES I StonExpo/Marmonac I TileExpo
(traditionally held in the January/February) rescheduled its show to June 16-18 as the
country returned to business following the Covid-19 pandemic. The show, the first for the
industry in 2021, was definitely smaller than years’ past, but was broadly supported by the
floor covering, stone and tile industries. The mood on the show floor was positive, energized,
and happy to be together again.

Following the Nevada Guidance for Safe Gatherings for groups/conventions over 250 people
with booth space capped at 50 percent of the total fire code capacity, social distancing, mask
protocol requirements and other mitigation protocols were enforced -- including no name badges.
Show attendees intently watched the live, three-day Semi-Finals Competition in the resilient
and carpet installation categories hosted by TISE. The prize at the conclusion of the
competition were the four spots in each category at the National Installer of the Year Finals

Installation training and products were most visible at this year’s show with presentations
on the main stage, the Installation Competition, and demos in various exhibitor’s
booths. Perhaps the industry is now recognizing the importance of trained, certified and
knowledgeable installers and will treat them as artisans.
